June's Cause: Becoming Climate Positive

AT ARTEMIS, WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY CONTRIBUTION NO MATTER HOW SMALL, HAS THE ABILITY TO MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. ALTHOUGH WE MAY BE A SMALL BUSINESS, WE WANT TO DO AS MUCH AS WE CAN TO DO OUR PART IN REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE DECADE FOR CLIMATE ACTION AND WE ARE SUPER EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO DO OUR PART! SO THIS MONTH, WE WILL BE USING OUR PROFITS TO MAKE ARTEMIS CLIMATE POSITIVE.

Every single month we have been donating to a different local charity. This month will be a little different and instead of donating to a chosen charity we will be paying to make ARTEMIS a Climate positive company and to offset our emissions! For scientists and environmentalists, phrases such as “carbon positive” and “carbon neutral” have been around for a while, but if you’re unsure what they mean we will break it down for you:

• Carbon neutral means that an activity releases net zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere. A company that’s carbon neutral (or carbon-free) is removing the same amount of carbon dioxide it’s emitting into the atmosphere to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, usually by purchasing carbon offsets or carbon credit to make up the difference.
• Climate positive means that an activity goes beyond achieving net zero carbon emissions to actually create an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The carbon footprint envelops everything from the energy required to produce and distribute a product, to the emissions associated with sourcing and production. In making ARTEMIS climate positive, we will go further than just offsetting our carbon emissions, but we will be actively playing a role in creating a greener environment.
